Torrens Pledges Investigation into Credit Reporting Agencies

Cites Massive Number of Errors in Consumers’ Credit Reports

TAMPA, Fla – May 2, 2018 – Ryan Torrens, consumer lawyer and Democratic candidate for Florida Attorney General, announced that, upon election, he will launch a massive investigation into the three credit reporting agencies – Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion – for failing to properly verify debts and failing to delete paid or expired debts from Floridians’ credit reports.

“Today, more than 1 in 5 Americans have a potentially material error in their credit report. In my own law practice, I have seen a significant number of our consumer clients with errors on their credit reports, at no fault of their own. This can result in the consumer being denied for a loan and can even result in the consumer’s existing credit being reduced or eliminated,” said Torrens.

“Floridians have rights under a very important federal law called the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Attorney General Bondi has failed to enforce this law and failed to protect Floridians’ credit reports from false reporting. When elected, I will launch a massive investigation into the credit reporting practices of Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion,” said Torrens.

“These credit reporting agencies will understand that they will report accurately on Floridians’ credit reports or else there will be very serious consequences,” said Torrens.

Torrens has been campaigning across the State of Florida while fighting for his clients as a consumer protection lawyer. He says he is running to put the Attorney General’s office back on the side of consumers again.
